3 Tips All Stomach Sleepers Need to Know

Did you know horses and cows can sleep while standing? Yeah, I thought it was pretty impressive as well. That was until I found out they can’t experience REM sleep without actually laying down.

No REM sleep = no dreams. No dreams = super lame. What’s the point of sleeping without those sweet dreams of jumping over the moon or winning the Kentucky Derby? This is kind of how we feel about stomach sleepers.

When you sleep on your stomach your spine is resting on your guts and your neck is twisted to the side. I promise you, your back is not thanking you for this.

Not only does your spine look like a kid’s roller coaster at an amusement park, but you deprive yourself of the proper amount of oxygen your body deserves.

Needless to say, you’re probably not getting the most comfortable or restful sleep. Hence, the morning can be full of body aches and yawns.

Don’t worry, we’re not judging you for your sleeping habits. Unlike horses and cows that stand while sleeping, we just want you to have the best sleep experience possible.

So what if you’ve tried everything you can think of and still end up sprawled out on your belly every morning? This is where I come in with some tips and tricks to make sleeping super awesome, even on your tummy.

Helpful Tips

1. First of all, get rid of that thick pillow.
Seriously, throw it away as quickly as possible. You should sleep with a thin pillow or no pillow at all so your neck is less angled throughout the night.

2. Come to think of it, I probably shouldn’t have told you to throw that extra pillow out quite yet! 
Go grab that thing out of the garbage and put it under your pelvis while you sleep. This will help take some much needed pressure off your spine and keep your back in a natural position.

3. Finally, take some time to stretch every morning to help with any remaining aches and pains.
Channeling your inner Yogi for even five minutes can make a world of difference.
